Aquin Catholic Schools the little schools that can
March 13, 2007 marked the end of our 5-year School Improvement Cycle. On that day, a team visited our school and validated how we have done during this cycle. This team was composed of Dr. Virgil Leopold, chairperson, Elizabeth Dougherty, Math teacher from Guilford High School, and Craig Knaack, retired educator. A brief synopsis of what was done 5 years ago follows.
A School Profile was developed with information from local insights, follow-up of former students, student data, instructional data, and community infromation. This information was taken and 2 goals were selected to work on during the School Improvement process.
Math Goal: All students will improve their math computational skills across the curriculum.
Responsibility Goal: All students will increase their level of responsibility as evidenced by daily punctual attendance and completing assigned work on time.
The School Improvement Plan was written based on faculty input for interventions and strategies. For the Math Goal the MathFacts program was added to 7th Grade Math, timed activity sheets were used, computational skills were to be practiced during bell work, pretests and posttests were given to 7th grade students in 2004 and 2005, and a review of math practice tests for the ACT during the 3rd Quarter was added to the program (as well as for Science and English). For the Responsibility Goal, attendance, tardies, and discipline areas were monitored. Some strategies used included: incentives, study skills unit in 7th Grade, use of daily planner and the TeacherEase program.
