Family Involvement

We are parents who are willing to sacrifice to give our children an education in a faith-filled learning environment.
As parents, we accept the primary responsibility for enriching the faith of our children. We do this by modeling a Christian ethic, by respecting the Sabbath, by establishing religious traditions in our homes and by instructing our children in the faith.

2011-12 Volunteer Opportunities
Throughout Aquin’s history, volunteers have played a vital role in the successes of our programs.  Today is no different.  From Extravaganza to our athletic programs to our visible presence in the community, volunteers continue Aquin’s legacy.  As we look ahead to 2011-12 (sadly, summer is almost half over), we are planning many exciting events for our students, families and community.  The success of these events relies on many hands.

To make the execution of these events go smoothly, I’ve created forms on which you can volunteer.  Following is a listing of all the events that I’m currently working on or organizations that I am working with.  Please complete and submit the forms as soon as possible.  You will be contacted no later than by the end of July.

Thank you for your support!

BC Fitness Center Construction . Beginning July 11
Work is progressing on the new fitness center. Tasks for our volunteer workforce are coming soon. If you are interested and available to help with any of the following, please provide your information on the form. If you have specific skills that may be valuable, please indicate that in the 'other' section. When a date is known for each task, you will be contacted via the information you provide on this form.

Ice Cream Scoopers for the Peace and Music Festival . August 20
Jodi Miller from Union Dairy has offered Aquin an opportunity to make some money at the Peace and Music Festival in Freeport on Saturday, August 20. She would like 30 volunteers from 10:00am on Saturday to 1:00 am on Sunday. Volunteers would scoop ice cream at the Union Dairy booth. (Aquin will not be scooping ice cream at the fair this year). If you are interested in helping, please complete the form. If you have a time preference, indicate that also. All volunteers for this task must be 21 years of age or older as there will be alcohol served at the event.

DawgFest Silent Auction . October 1
We will be having a Silent Auction during DawgFest on Saturday, October 1. The majority of the items in the Auction will be classroom baskets as we have created in the past for Extravaganza. All baskets will be based on a fairytale theme in the spirit of the 2011 Homecoming theme, 'Once Upon Aquin'.  We will put information out to our families on what type of donations we are looking for in each classroom. If you are interested in helping with the planning and preparation of the basket items, please complete the form. We will have an initial meeting in July to get things started, but attendance at the meeting is not required.

DawgFest Casino Night . October 1
We are adding a Casino Night to DawgFest on Saturday, October 1 from 7:00-11:0pm. If you are interested in helping with the planning of the event, please indicate that on the form. Also, we are in need of volunteers to help on event night. Those jobs will include set-up, tear-down, serving drinks, bankers, admissions, sponsor solicitation, etc. Please indicate any and all areas in which you are willing to help. We will have an initial meeting in July to get things started, but attendance at the meeting is not required.

Punt, Pass and Kick . October 1
Last year we held our first NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest with great success. We would again like to hold this event on Saturday, October 1 in conjunction with DawgFest. We are in need of 2 people to head this event. We are also in need of others to help run the event on the 1st (high school students are welcome to assist).

Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser . September 17, October 15, November 19
This is an all-new event for Aquin.  Applebee’s provides the food and kitchen help.  We sell tickets at $5 each (we get $4 from each ticket sold) with a max of 300 tickets per event.  We have to provide dining room help.

Aquin Schools Athletics – September 17
Aquin Schools Interact – October 15
Aquin Schools Elementary PTC  – November 19

The dates are set and the serving times are 8:00-10:00am on Saturdays only.  The volunteer times are 7:00am-10:30am(approx).  There are 3 groups that will benefit from the Flapjack Fundraisers:  Elementary PTC (supports needs of our preschool-elementary teachers and students), Athletics (supports our athletic programs) and Interact (a service group that goes into our community and helps with various community organizations).  So, if you are a member of the Aquin family, you belong to at least one of these groups.  If you wish to help at a specific event, please indicate that on the form.  Events are designated by group, but anyone is welcome to help with any event.

Aquin Boosters . Year-Round
The Aquin Boosters raise funds by servicing the community in events such as Cruise Night, Music on Chicago and the Freeport Home Show, and by hosting the Aquin Flea Market. The activities take very little time and provide a great value to our students and our school. Every family enrolled at Aquin is automatically a member of the Aquin Boosters as we all want to support our students.  If you are interested in committing to a more active role, please indicate any and all areas in which you are willing to help. Kevin Skonieczny is our current president and will keep that position for the 2011-12 school year. If you are interested in shadowing him this year to see if you would like to take over next year, please indicate that as well and he will contact you.
