2012 Research Project Information:
Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 use Google Apps for Education, twice a week during computer class.
During computer class, students learn to prepare research papers in MLA format, just as students do at the Junior/Senior High School. We not only prepare our papers in this way, but we also use Google Apps for Education to type and share our work with our teachers.
We set up our papers, outlines, and acknowledgements using Google Docs; we use EasyBib (through Google Apps) to prepare our Works Cited/Bibliographies and share our work with our teachers.
Students access their Google Apps for Education accounts and proofread their work. Students also go through the following checklist:
-
Check ALL work for the following information (all work includes Research Paper, Works Cited/Bibliography, Acknowledgements, Outline)
-
Margins (top, bottom, right, left) 1 inch (File → Page Setup)
-
Double Spacing (Format → Line Spacing → 2.0)
-
Font: Arial
-
Font Size: 12
-
Spell Check (automatically on...to see spelling suggestions, just right-click with your mouse while hovering over the word and then choose the correct spelling)
-
PROOFREAD...Read, Read and RE-READ your papers...have someone else read your paper!
-
Look for words that are spelled correctly, but not the word you meant to use (ex. to, two, too).
-
Look for things that you could say differently or in a better way.
Students print all work and assemble research papers for final submission. Students prepare the Title Page according to MLA format.
Some tips for completing project:
-
Sign in to Google Apps for Education and then click on EasyBib.
-
Click on All Projects (left side of screen)
-
If they have not started yet they will need to create a new project and name it. (You can leave MLA 7 checked)
-
Once created, click on ‘Bibliography’ below the project name and begin citing your sources.
-
Be sure to click on the appropriate tab for the source you are citing (Website, Books, All 58 options for other types of sources)
-
Always make sure you have typed all information into EasyBib correctly or it will not be able to find your information. If you still have trouble locating your source, you will need to search for it again and copy and paste the URL from the address bar on your browser. If you still have trouble, please see Mrs. Morrison.
Happy Googling!
