Freshman Year ________________________________________________________________
Career Cruising . In the Fall, all freshman will meet in the computer lab with Mr. Klipp and be introduced to www.careercruising.com. This is a great website and resource for career planning and college planning and can be accessed anywhere, not just at school.
Explore . In the Spring, all freshman will take the Explore test. This is the freshman level of the ACT college admission exam.
Grade Point Average . The most important thing that a freshman can do is to get off to a good start academically. College test scores are directly related to classroom performance. College admission is based on academic performance and college admission exams.
Sophomore Year ______________________________________________________________
Career Cruising . Sophomores will continue with developing their portfolio and career planning.
PLAN . In the Spring, all sophomores will take the PLAN, this is the sophomore level of the ACT.
Academic . Continue to stress academic performance.
Activities . Admission and scholarship people are looking for quality not quantity. Leadership positions and volunteerism receive the greatest consideration in admission and selection.
Junior Year ____________________________________________________________________
Career Cruising . Continue developing their individual portfolio and work on college planning, selection and admission.
Practice ACT . In January, all juniors will take a full ACT practice exam.
ACT . April 4, 2009 – registration deadline is February 27.
Activities . Continue to build your resume.
Senior Year ___________________________________________________________________
Retake ACT . If necessary, September 13 (late fee), October 25, December 13
Senior Conference . Review checklist of activities to be completed during senior year, parents are invited to attend.

This site is an excellent resource for students and parents. It is everything you want to know about college planning, selection, admission and finance.
Each year when the students meet with Mr. Klipp, they are given a conference form highlighting the important issues of each year. We will let you know by email and on the website, when these conferences are held.

Scholarship and Recognition Programs for Seniors ____________________
Wendy’s High School Heisman
One male and one female selected from Aquin to compete in scholarship competition – certificate given on Honors Day.
Excellence in academics, athletics and student leadership – must have a “B” average and compete in one school-sponsored sport.
Applications must be completed online by October 1 – notify Mr. Klipp (he must verify your application by October 6)
School winners receive a $10 Wendy’s gift card, a school winner certificate and Wendy’s Heisman patch – State finalists will be announced in November by mail.
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
Open to all middle school and high school students to recognize volunteerism in the school and in the community.
Complete application online (www.prudential.com/spirit) - print it out, sign and submit to Aquin principal by October 31. One Aquin student will be selected to compete at the state level.
Local winner will receive a certificate that will be presented at Honor’s Day – State judging will be done in February.
Coca-Cola Scholars
250 winners selected nationwide – scholarships range from $10,000 to $20,000 - well rounded seniors, demonstrated leadership, commitment to community, academic achievement.
Must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org before October 31.
Semifinalists will be notified in December
