Click here to read about the significant development in the investigation of Jory Aebly's attack as reported by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Jory is doing well and has completed his speech, physical and occupational therapy programs and is now focusing on vocational training.

Thank you for keeping Jory in your thoughts and prayers.

5.20.09  .  Since leaving the hospital on March 31, Jory has continued to pursue his rehabilitation. For the first month, Jory was receiving IV antibiotics at home 3 times per day and had in-home visits for therapy. He completed his course of IV antibiotics at the end of April and is now doing speech, physical and occupational therapy at MetroHealth on an outpatient basis.

Jory has also been regularly working on playing guitar and piano and was invited to join some other former patients and hospital staffers to provide musical entertainment last night for MetroHealth's Spirit Award recognition for Norman Martin attended by hospital donors, staff, patients and their loved ones.

Below are links to a few of the news articles available this morning.

The quality of the picture is low as it is a scan of a newspaper clipping.  Jory is #60 and is to the left of Fr. Bolger.  This picture has been hanging in the Aquin Faculty Lounge.  After reading the following statement from Jory's mom, Mrs. Flynn remembered that Jory was in this picture.  Keep praying!

"Jory continues to improve and was moved out of the lCU to another floor the evening of March 5th.

As the injury Jory sustained was described by physicians as a non-survivable gunshot wound to the head, we feel blessed with the miraculous progress we have seen so far.

Jory has had a few setbacks and has a long road ahead of him. He is continuing to battle his traumatic injuries and severe pain with the same Bulldog attitude and spirit we witnessed on the Aquin football field when at 168 lbs. he was lining up against 250 Ib+ linemen. It is this determined attitude and spirit, the grace of God, and your continued words of support and prayers that keeps us hopeful that he will make it through this senseless and horrific ordeal and overcome many of the deficits that he is now dealing with.

Jory has built a special relationship with Father Art here at Metro Hospital and some of the longest conversations are between the two of them. Jory indicated that he reminds him a little of Father Bolger, a priest he was close to and looked up to at Aquin High School in Freeport, IL.

I started reading these messages to Jory a couple days ago. I lost count of the number of smiles the messages brought to his face. Although he sometimes get exhausted and appears to be falling asleep, every time I suggest we take a break, Jory asks that I keep reading and I cannot begin to express what your support means to him. He is also very touched by the outreach and support he has received from near and far and amazed by the response from the community including people he has never met.

While he is not yet ready for visitors, please continue to keep him in your prayers and I will continue to read your words of support to Jory and periodically update this site with his progress .”

Thank you, Jory's mom

2.24.09  .  We are still uncertain of Jory's condition, but based on the news article (quoted below) Jory and his family need our prayers.  Pray too for the family of the other victim, Jeremy Pechanec.

" . . . according to trauma surgeon John Como, who was there when the two men arrived at the hospital Sunday morning,  The bullet cut at an angle through Aebly's brain and lodged on the right side, leaving fragments of bone and bullet in its wake. Doctors can only wait to see if he will improve as the swelling subsides, Como said. "It would be unusual for someone to recover, to survive an injury (like this)," he said. "I'm surprised that he's doing as well as he is given the wound that he sustained."

Pray for the city of Cleveland in this difficult time.

2.23.09  .  Jory Aebly is an Aquin graduate from the class of 2001.  He and his friend were shot in a robbery over the weekend in Cleveland.  His friend is dead and we are not sure the status of Jory.  Jory was shot in the head and the bullet went all the way through.  We don't know much more than that.  Please keep Jory and his family in your prayers.
