Meg Zuravel, class of 1977, was sworn into the Freeport City Clerk’s office on October 1, 2007 by Freeport Mayor George Gaulrapp, class of 1977 and Judge Mike Bald.

Joshua Pontius, class of 2007, was selected by Freeport Lions Club for a $500 scholarship for students planning to attend Highland Community College. He is the son of Dawn and Michael Pontius.

Elizabeth Isham Cory, former Freeport resident, has been named President of the Board of Directors of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, a not-for-profit organization based in Dallas, TX. She is the daughter of the late Dr. William H. and Caroline F. Isham of Freeport.
Cory is an ovarian cancer survivor and member of the NOCC’s Illinois Chapter Advisory Board. Her primary responsibility in this volunteer post will be national survivor spokesperson.
Cory is employed as media spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration, based in Chicago. She is a 1976 graduate of Aquin High School, earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa, and her MBA from Northern Illinois University.
She is a former Anchor for WREX-TV, talk host for WROK-AM, and public relations representative for OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. She is a past President of the Illinois Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, Chair of the YWCA Leader Luncheon, and was public relations chair for Greenwich Village Art Fair and First Night Rockford. She served on the Boards of the Comprehensive Health Planning of Northwestern Illinois (CHPNI), American Lung Association of Northern Illinois, Blackhawk Valley Riding for the Handicapped, and Greater Rockford Press Club. She is currently Treasurer of Great Lakes Congress, Inc., and Executive Secretary of the Misty of Chincoteague Foundation, Inc.
The Mission of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer, as well as provide information and support to patients.
Early detection is key to improving the survival rate and quality of life for women with this disease. There is no definitive test for ovarian cancer, and many women are diagnosed after the disease has spread. Early warning signs include a feeling of fullness, pelvic or abdominal pain, trouble eating, the need to urinate frequently. Stephenson County All Veterans’ Memorial Park, dream and design of Dan Steele was dedicated June 16, 2007 on South Walnut Road in Freeport. Dan passed away on May 29, 1999 of Gulf War Illness.
